What I offer with in person Personal Training
The goal is simple: to get you moving freely, so you can walk into the gym and feel confident in what you are doing, not intimidated. You can then transfer that functional fitness and movement vocabulary into your daily life, hobbies, sports and all round health.

My method*

  • Test and assess how you move and breathe; your physiology, core function, mobility and positions
  • Work out what’s restricting you. (I specialise in mobility: imagine your very own sun salutation, tailored to your body’s needs)
  • Build up from breathing mechanics and core stabilisation, the foundation everything else sits on
  • Teach you the skills you need so you can feel confident in the gym and in your movement
  • Programme your workouts to build functional strength progressively, starting from where you are right now

*This will usually take around 6 months; I’d recommend a minimum of 3 months which equates to a 12 week training block: 1 – 2 sessions a week. Some need longer, some want more.

What you get

  • An accountability partner and personal coach
  • Someone working closely with you to find what’s actually blocking your progress and helping you regain your fitness
  • A functional programme built around you and what your body needs
  • Clarity on direction: together setting the target we’re aiming for, figuring out the strategy to get there, what we’re tracking, and how we’ll know it’s working
  • Technique, skills and movement habits that actually protect you from injury. Yours for life

CORE FUNCTION ASSESSMENT

Garth Williams

Studying acting taught me to understand my body as an instrument… I’m still working out how to play this thing.

At uni I studied weightlifting, calisthenics, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Yoga and Alexander Technique alongside a full-time drama degree — and rapidly became the person other students came to for training advice.

At 6’6” with hypermobility, I have long been my own most challenging client — but I figured it out, and over the last 9 years rebuilt my movement practice from the outside in.

I’ve extensively studied movement — including how to lift weights properly with proper form and technique, as well as multiple exercise modalities — accumulating a wealth of practical knowledge.

I know how important it is to train right: at 15 years of age, I got a slipped disc in my lower spine from lifting my own bodyweight on a barbell during my first ever weightlifting session. I had been shown a terrible technique by my PE teacher – who was determined to bulk me up for the rugby team – and who then left me unsupervised to do it. I was in agony, bed-bound for 2 weeks, with regular relapses into chronic pain over the next 25 years.

I then learnt to manage it, how to mobilise and how to heal. I have also recovered from a cracked spine, scoliosis, whiplash, valgus knees, osgood schlatters, plantar fasciitis, a trendelendburg gait, dislocated fingers and chronic low back pain. I came out the other side lifting heavier and moving better than ever before, pain free.

Building functional strength & conditioning through proper form and technique, with injury prevention baked in from the start, is what made the difference. It’s also what I bring to every client, whatever their starting point.

I offer a holistic approach that starts with you — keeping you motivated, moving well, and having fun.
